Living Room Crush

I've got a big ol' crush on this living room I stumbled across on Pinterest a few weeks ago! It's so light and pretty, and is both colorful and neutral all at the same time. It's what I crave for my own living room.

Truth be told, my mind is more consumed with home decor these days than it is fashion. As you might remember, we bought a house back in October. Of course I was filled with the best of intentions and planned on redecorating and refurnishing everything - which as we all know, takes a lot of time and money! So I have slowly but surely been adding bits and pieces to make this house a home. I have also been going through a bit of a home decor style identity crisis, after realizing much of what I love borders on teenage girl and was in fact, not the look I was going for.

Have any of you ever experienced that? What you're immediately drawn to is not always what you really want? (Like how I'm also immediately drawn to party dresses, and they're not practical at all for most of life!)

Balancing white, light & airy without making it cold and stark has proven difficult for me. Hoping to someday show you my own space, but for now I'll keep lusting over rooms I find on pinterest - speaking of which, you can check out my home decor inspiration board here

Slip-on Sneaks

1 / 2/ 3 / 4 / 5 / 6 / 7 / 8

So this trend is by no means new... slip on sneakers were everywhere last summer, and perhaps I'm just late to the game but I'm all of a sudden obsessed. They add such a cool, laid back vibe to any outfit, and are also super comfortable. Stylish comfort? You can't beat it.

Above are some of my favorite ways I've seen them styled! I've linked to each individual blog above but you can also check these out & more on my pinterest

Shop some great options below! I just ordered these ones for less than $30!

Sequin Season

(all images via pinterest

With a holiday/housewarming party around the corner, I have my eye on party wear and nothing says holiday party quite like sequins! You can go full out glam with a sequin dress (this strapless number is killer, too and less than $90!) or mix a casual cozy sweater or tee with a sequin skirt or pants, or dress up jeans with a cute sequin top! All kinds of ways to work sequins in to your holiday wardrobe!

What's your favorite way to sport sequins?

First Day of Fall!

Source: Pinterest

Happy first day of fall! It's been feeling like fall around here for the last couple weeks, but as of today it is officially here. Since my next outfit post didn't look all that fall-ish to me, I decided to fore-go an outfit post and do a round up of some of my favorite fall looks I've been collecting on pinterest!

It appears that I'm looking for a fuss-free kind of fall - just simple, cozy and feminine with a hint of edge. I love all the layering and bits of plaid and leopard happening here, as well as the leather pants which I confessed my love for here. I'm so smitten with this leather legging & knit peplum look from Stephanie and as always Blair is playing a huge part in my fall inspiration.  What's on your style radar this fall?

Rainy Day Style

Sources: 1 & 2, 3, 4

It's a cold, gray, rainy day here so I thought I'd do a little roundup of some of my favorite rainy day style inspiration! The one from Blair is a classic that I've swooned over for a couple years now, and it goes without saying how obsessed I am with those black & white striped umbrellas. Paired with classic trench coats, they are beyond perfect.

I hope you're all staying warm & dry! Happy Wednesday!

Fall Inspiration: Plaid

The minute fall arrives, my love of plaid & tartan multiplies! There's something so cozy, festive, nostalgic & timeless about plaid, and it just feels oh so appropriate for the season. I've rounded up a few of my favorite plaid looks from the depths of pinterest to share with you today! I recently scooped up this amazingly giant tartan scarf from Zara, and am on the hunt for a few more plaid/tartan button ups as well!

Home Decor Love

Sources: one / two / three / four / five / six / seven / eight

Lately I've been thinking a lot about home decor and growing more and more aware that my home does not reflect me or my style at all in its current state. Flipping through my home decor pinterest board, it's pretty darn clear what I like: bright white spaces, black & white prints, and splashes of hot pink/fuchsia. Which is pretty much in line with my style when it comes to clothing as well!

So whhhhhy is this barely reflected in my own home? Granted, I live in a rented townhouse, so I'm pretty sure my walls are stuck in their neutral cream color, but otherwise there's no excuse. So blog world, I just thought  maybe if I posted this, I'd finally take some steps towards creating a home that feels a lot more 'me' (and hoping that the fella likes all the 'me' reflected throughout the house! Ha!)

First on the list is new bedding, reupholstering my dining chairs, and finally framing a large print I've had since September that's still not hung.

Are your personal style and your home decor style in line with each other?

If you have any inspirational photos or items that fit my little inspiration board above (Like "Hey Kate, you should buy these pillows! They're so you!") feel free to leave some links in the comment section! I'm on a mission, and as always, would love your input!

5 Favorite Fashion Instagrammers!

The Glitter Guide recently published their 20 favorite instagram accounts to follow, so I thought I'd follow suit & share with you a few of my favorites! I always love discovering new, pretty & inspirational instagrams to follow, and I'm sure many of you feel the same, so here are 5 of my very favorite ladies to follow! Of course many of my favorite bloggers would make my favorite instagram list as well (Alicia of Cheetah is the New Black & Blaire of Atlantic Pacific, for example), but for this post I wanted to focus on a few people you might not already be following!

thepinkdiary >> Quite possibly the prettiest instagram account there is. It is gorgeously feminine & whimsical, and arranged oh so perfectly. Definitely one of my very favorites!

blushshop >> This is actually the instagram account for a shop in Ontario but while some images are of the shop, it's done in such a beautiful and artistic way and defiitely focuses more on the owner's style & aesthetic. She takes the best downward self shots out of anyone on instagram, in my opinion! ;)

inherited_jeans >> This girl can arrange pretty objects like no other! Her instagram is full of beautiful jewels, clothes, nail polish, beauty products & home decor all laid out so perfectly! A total visual dream!

mrsstrock >> I actually have no idea how I stumbled across this account, but she is a stella & dot consultant and I love the way she lays out her outfits for photos! Such great styling & so many items I wish were in my closet!

pipercase >> Another lady who always inspires me with her perfectly laid out outfits & downward self shots showcasing her amazing style!

I'd LOVE to hear who your favorites are as well, so be sure to leave me any people I should be following in the comments! :)

See by Chloe Fall 2011 (and a giveaway winner!)

I don't post a lot of editorials on this blog, but every once in a while a collection or lookbook comes along that sends me head over heels and I feel that I must share it with you. The See by Chloe Fall 2011 lookbook is absolutely stunning, and I plan on basing many a fall & winter outfit on the ones found here... I am obsessed. Note to self - make thick gray knit tights one of your first fall purchases and wear them with as much camel footwear as possible!

Which one is your favorite?

And, without further ado, the winner of the $50 Boa giveaway is... Lynzy of Sparkling Footsteps! Congrats Lynzy!! Can't wait to see what you pick out!

Spring Things

This weekend, I saw patches of grass. I wore ballet flats with bare feet. I traded in my winter coat for a trench. I said the words "It's sooo nice out!" multiple times. And I finally felt like spring was truly on it's way! Sigh! Thank goodness! Recently, I came across this maxi dress and decided it was the prettiest maxi dress I have ever seen. Seriously, so stunning! (and seriously, so out of my budget!) so I wanted to share a little bit of my spring inspiration.

Tomorrow is my blog's birthday! Stay tuned for some fun celebratory things this week! Happy Monday, all! xo.

Neon & Neutrals

Neon wasn't a trend that I thought I would gravitate towards, but when I saw this first photo of Andy of Style Scrapbook, I was hooked on the idea of pairing soft neons with neutrals.

We're not talking your Avril Lavigne inspired pink & black stripe faux punk rocker-esque neons of 2001, nor your over the top gaudy child of the 80's neons we sported in elementary school. These neons still manage to be soft, chic, and so perfect for spring. The key is pairing them with pretty neutrals, whites, blacks & grays.

I plan on incorporating this trend through a soft neon tee or a thin belt! What's your take on the trend?

Kate, Spring 2011

When the wind stops howling & the snow stops falling, my spring will look like this.

Trying on outfits last Saturday night I realized how pretty the piles of clothes all looked together. Silk & ruffles, floral, stripes, polkadots & lace. A sneak preview, of sorts - Kate, Spring 2011.

Happy March, everyone!
